Le Dolomiti Lucane

Le Dolomiti Lucane sono montagne rocciose situate nel cuore della Basilicata. Pur non essendo montagne particolarmente imponenti offrono scenari del tutto unici ed affascinanti e rappresentano un luogo ideale per fare trekking ed escursionismo.
Sono così chiamate per la loro somiglianza con le Dolomiti Trentine e Venete.
La loro forma così singolare e affascinante è il risultato dell’erosione atmosferica.
Il complesso roccioso assume forme particolarmente incantevoli in prossimità di Castelmezzano e Pietrapertosa: i due borghi delle Dolomiti sorti per motivi strategici e difensivi a ridosso delle guglie più maestose del comprensorio.
Castelmezzano e Pietrapertosa fanno entrambi parte del circuito dei Borghi più belli d’Italia.
Castelmezzano, 750 metri di altezza, impianto ancora medioevale, con tutta la suggestione di simboli orientali che sbucano tra le case aggrappate alla roccia secondo l’antica forma di terrazzamento.
Scale e vicoli portano nel luogo dove c’era un castello-fortezza normanno-svevo, il Castrum Medianum, cioè Castello di Mezzo (da cui deriva il nome del paese).

Pietrapertosa, con i suoi 1088 metri, è il comune più alto della Basilicata, abitato fin dal IV sec.a.c.
C’è anche un castello che poggia sulla pietra e che si chiama Arabat, termine saraceno, attorno cui sono sorte le case verso il basso, tra strette strade e vicoli ciechi, usando spesso la stessa roccia delle Dolomiti come pareti, formando una sorta di anfiteatro, nascosto dalla pietra che la circonda.

Castelmezzano, 750 meters high, still medieval plant, with all the suggestion of oriental symbols that emerge between the houses clinging to the rock according to the ancient form of terracing.
Stairs and alleys lead to the place where there was a Norman-Swabian castle-fortress, the Castrum Medianum, ie Castello di Mezzo (from which the name of the village derives).

Pietrapertosa, with its 1088 meters, is the highest municipality of Basilicata, inhabited since the fourth century BC.
There is also a castle that rests on the stone and that is called Arabat, a Saracen term, around which the houses have risen down, between narrow streets and dead ends, often using the same rock as the Dolomites walls, forming a sort of amphitheater, hidden by the stone that surrounds it.
