Il Monte Soratte si erge isolato nella campagna a nord di Roma e domina la bassa valle del Tevere. ﾉ formato da rocce calcaree particolarmente solubili il che favorisce la presenza importanti fenomeni carsici.

Fin dall’antichità è stato un importante luogo di culto e di eremitaggio, dei vari romitori e chiese ne rimangono solo una piccola quantità di qualcuno ormai solo pochi ruderi.

Il monte, la cui altezza massima non arriva ai 700 mt è ammantato da bei boschi, per la maggior parte leccete con alberi secolari di particolare bellezza.

Il nostro itinerario con partenza ed arrivo dalla cittadina di S. Oreste, toccherà alcuni dei romitori fino ad arrivare alla chiesa fortificata di S. Silvestro, posta alla sommità del monte, che visiteremo con una guida.

Dopo la sosta per il pranzo al sacco, raggiungeremo il piccolo borgo tufaceo di Castel S. Elia, situato tra Civita Castellana e Nepi, qui visiteremo il santuario di SS Maria ad Rupes e, con guida, la magnifica basilica romanica di S. Elia, abbellita da affreschi alto medievali.

Mount Soratte stands isolated in the countryside north of Rome and dominates the lower Tiber valley.ノ formed by particularly soluble limestone rocks, which promotes the presence of important karst phenomena.

Since ancient times it has been an important place of worship and hermitage, of the various pilgrims and churches, there are only a small amount of people now only a few ruins.

The mountain, whose maximum height does not reach 700 meters, is surrounded by beautiful forests, most of which is surrounded by secular trees of particular beauty.

Our itinerary starting and arriving from the town of S. Oreste will touch some of the hikers until we arrive at the fortified church of S. Silvestro, at the top of the mountain, which we will visit with a guide.

After the lunch break, we will reach the small tufaceous village of Castel S. Elia, between Civita Castellana and Nepi, here we will visit the sanctuary of SS Maria in Rupes and, with guidance, the magnificent Romanesque basilica of S. Elia, decorated with medieval high frescoes.
