San Salvatore e Verchiano di Foligno 12 agosto 2018

L’itinerario inizia dall’abitato di Verchiano, precisamente dal bivio con il sentiero 581 Colfiorito-Sellano, nei pressi dei ruderi della chiesetta di San Sisto.

Da qui si sale dolcemente lungo la carrareccia in un percorso ombreggiato e piacevole girando intorno al monte Nagni.
Alla ‘troscia’ artificiale si aggira monte Cui dal versante orientale e, giunti alla strada Verchiano-Curasci, si sale a San Salvatore Piccolo, importante santuario posto alla sommità dell’omonimo monte a 1144 m di altitudine.

In origine era un’abbazia benedettina e i primi documenti che la menzionano risalgono al 1333-1334. Il beato Paoluccio Trinci morì nel santuario nel 1390 e vi fu sepolto, il suo corpo venne traslato a Verchiano circa un secolo dopo.

In questo splendido posto panoramico gusteremo una colazione tipica prodotta dalla proloco di Verchiano, inoltre qui sarà possibile effettuare rifornimento d’acqua.

Nel rientro lungo il percorso attraverseremo il vecchio Castello di Verchiano e poco dopo saremo giunti al punto di partenza.

The itinerary starts from the town of Verchiano, precisely from the junction with the path 581 Colfiorito-Sellano, near the ruins of the church of San Sisto.

From here you climb gently along the dirt track in a shady and pleasant path turning around Mount Nagni.
The artificial ‘troscia’ wanders Mount Cui from the eastern side and, upon reaching the Verchiano-Curasci road, one ascends to San Salvatore Piccolo, an important sanctuary located at the top of the homonymous mountain at an altitude of 1144 m.

Originally it was a Benedictine abbey and the first documents mentioning it date back to 1333-1334. The blessed Paoluccio Trinci died in the sanctuary in 1390 and was buried there, his body was moved to Verchiano about a century later.

In this splendid panoramic place we will taste a typical breakfast produced by the proloco of Verchiano, moreover here it will be possible to supply water.

Returning along the path we will cross the old Verchiano Castle and shortly after we will have reached the starting point.
